Item Types
Differentiate between the high-level operational behaviors of inventory items.
Understanding Item Types
Not everything in the hospital behaves the same way. The Item Type dictates how the system processes the product downstream.
- Consumables / Pharmaceuticals: Items like Syringes, Cotton, or Paracetamol that are depleted upon use and require constant reordering. These track Expiry Dates and Batch Numbers.
- Capital Equipment (Assets): Items like MRI Machines or Patient Monitors. These are not "consumed" by a patient. They are tracked for depreciation, maintenance, and physical location within the hospital.
- Services: Intangible items like "Consultation Fee" or "Blood Test". These are billed to patients but do not reduce physical stock levels when used.
